Why An Arts Garage?

It is widely known and accepted that:

  • Art stimulates the imagination.

  • Art opens the heart and mind to possibilities and fuels the imagination.

  • Art makes you more observant.

  • Art enhances problem-solving skills.

  • Art boosts self-esteem and provides a sense of accomplishment.

  • Art reduces stress.

While the area is rich with artistic talent, there is not a central space for artists to meet, to learn and to grow.

There are no galleries for multiple artists to show and share their work. There are no artist studios.

There is no space for artists to come together to talk and discuss their work.

There are no mentorships for young students; in fact, art in schools has been dwindling and our children have become culturally deprived of creativity.

While artists work individually or within small clubs, there is no concerted effort to bring them together, while also engaging supporters of the arts and the general public.

They do not have a home!

There IS a need for The Arts Garage

TAG Talking Points

  • The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council envisions The Arts Garage (TAG) to be a place where a diverse group of artists can come together to create and share their specific talents.

  • We will be an art and cultural destination for artists, art enthusiasts and the general public, while making a distinct economic impact throughout Ottawa County.

  • Artists from all mediums, including applied art, artists in residence, calligraphy, ceramics, culinary, digital art, drawing, film, fine art, graffiti, literature, performing art, painting, photography, sculpture and visual arts will now have a place to call home.

  • These artists will also engage residents and visitors of all ages through educational (classes and camps), mentorships and coaching opportunities throughout the year.

  • TAG will not only serve as the “artistic hub” of Ottawa County, but also as a space for meetings and other community events.

  • Becoming an attraction and destination in downtown Port Clinton’s “West End” complimenting the city’s ongoing revitalization efforts.

  • To complete this initial phase, we will need to raise $1.2 million through a combination of individual donations and public grants.

  • We are in the process of completing a comprehensive capital campaign plan that will enable us to achieve that goal.
