Pottery classes firing up at TAG starting 3/4!

Ready for some hands-on artistry? Itching to get your hands into some clay?

The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council is excited to announce pottery classes will begin on Saturday March 4 at The Arts Garage (TAG) in Port Clinton.

Join instructors Jeanette Oleksa, Valerie Crow & Maggie Beckford for this hands-on journey in pottery!

Classes like pinch pots, coils, and slab will all take place on the following dates:

· March 4 at 10am - Pinch pot

· March 5 at 2pm - Coil

· March 7 at 6pm - Pinch pot

· March 8 at 6pm - Coil

· March 19 at 1pm - Glazing

· April 4 at 2pm - Slab

· April 5 at 4:30pm - Slab

· April 18 at 6pm - Glazing

Cost is $40 per class (excluding glazing, which is no charge) and tickets can be purchased at www.gpcaac.org. Visit the “Classes” page and select the session or sessions you would like to attend.

In pinch pots you will learn the pinch method, how to make a slump mold lid and a coil foot.

Supplies you should bring include an apron, a towel or rag, a kitchen knife (not serrated) or E-Xacto knife, and a spray bottle for water.

In coil pots class you will learn how to roll coils, including various coil techniques and how to assemble.

For coil pots you should also bring the above supplies as well as a tool kit, which are available for purchase at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or online. Kit includes a sponge, needle tool, wooden rib, metal rib, 2 loop tools.

Pieces will be bisque fired and you will schedule a day to glaze your work with a pickup date after firing.

In slab class you will learn how to roll a slab, use a slump mold, apply decorations or do Scraffito carving.

In addition to the supplies above you should also bring a rolling pin.

Additional supplies may be needed as the classes advance.

The Arts Garage is located in the city’s old maintenance garage at 317 W. Perry Street in Port Clinton, Ohio.
